Samuel (Sam) Zien also known as “Sam The Cooking Guy” is a Canadian/American TV producer and a YouTuber. He was born on August 7th, 1959 in Canada. Currently he lives in San Diego, California, USA.

On some of his live videos we could see that Sam uses Shure SM7B Cardioid Dynamic Microphone and Rode PSA 1 boom arm.

We couldn’t figure out what camera he uses. We think it’s a Sony Alpha A6500 or Panasonic GH5.

We couldn’t figure what lighting Sam uses, although some softboxes and led reflectors can be seen in few of his videos.

In a couple of his videos we can see that Sam uses Apple Macbook 13 as a daily driver but the system where the actual video editing happens is unknown.

Kitchenware, Utensils and Appliances

Sam has four grills: Caliber Ther-TQ-WH-SC-WS Turqoise, EVO Affinity 30G Series gas grill, EVO Professional Series Grill on Cart (10-0002-NG) gas grill and a Lodge LPGI3 Pro-Grid Cast Iron grill. While he is grilling, he often uses Cuisinart CGPR-221 cast iron grill press.

Number of his appliances are way too big for this article, but we tried to collect as much as we found…

He uses Vitamix 5300 blender which is professional grade blender but, in few videos, he also used small NutriBullet blender. His food processor is the Breville BFP800XL and mixer he uses is the KitchenAid KSM150PSCU Artisan Series with pouring shield.

Sam has two food thermometers and we can see both of these quite often in his videos. Two thermometers are: ThermoPro TP-16 with temperature probe and ThermoPro TP15 long probe thermometer.

His ovens and a microwave are produced by Dacor.

His cookware consists of many pieces and we couldn’t find all brand and models since some of those stopped producing 20 years ago. However, we did find some brand and models he uses.

He has the following stuff: Simply Calphalon Nonstick 14 Piece cookware set which is available on Amazon, Lodge Cast Iron Skillet, Joyce Chen 21-9979 carbon steel stir fry pan and Lodge 5 Quart Cast Iron Dutch Oven.

Knifes and Sharpeners

Sam Zien uses Messermeister Park Plaza Gourmet Knife Set which comes in 4 pieces, he also has additional Messermeister Meridian Elite Chef’s Knife in 8-inch length and Messermeister Park Plaza Kullenschliff Vegetable Knife in 7-inch length. His knives can be seen standing on a Coninx Magnetic Knife Holder. Beside these knives he has few custom-made knives.

He has few cutting boards and some most looked are custom made but we found these two to be similar enough: John Boos Block CHY-CCB183-R cutting board and Epicurean Gourmet Series Cutting Board.

Sam has few knife sharpeners most prominent were PriorityChef Knife Sharpener with diamond coated system and a classic King whetstone sharpener.

Cooking Utensils

Number of his cooking utensils is enormous luckily those things are not expensive… We recognized the following stuff in his videos: Messermeister Stainless Steel Locking Tong (in two sizes), Messermeister Silicone Coated Locking Tong (9 inches), Metaltex USA Inc. Potato Ricer, Microplane 40020 Classic Zester/Grater and ZYLISS Susi 3 Garlic Press.

Income and Net Worth

“Sam The Cooking Guy” has many ventures, beside YouTube channel, he has TV show and restaurant. He is also spoke person for Newcastle Brown Ale. All this together, means it’s impossible for us to figure out his total income and net worth… However, if we are looking just on his YouTube channel things are little bit different… Social Blade website estimate that his earnings from YouTube are somewhere between $1.5K and $24.7K per month. We think number is close to $6k monthly.

Samuel (Sam) Zien also known as “Sam The Cooking Guy” is a Canadian/American TV producer and a YouTuber. He was born on August 7th, 1959 in Canada. Currently he lives in San Diego, California, USA.

Until 2001 Sam had day job in pharmaceutical company. Eventually he decided to drop everything and chase career in television. In the beginning his plan was to simplify travel show, but after dropping that idea he decided to simplify cooking. As he was not chef, neither did he had background in cooking he figured this is the perfect match, because in that time existing TV shows were intimidating and sounded too technical for the average viewer.

He recorded his demo tape and sent it to TV houses and few industry experts, but all declined his idea. Sam then sent the tape to some of the local TV stations in San Diego and finally got positive answer, so his show began to be regularly aired two times per week in San Diego.

Eventually show overgrew local channels and went national with Discovery Health channel. That happened in 2011.

Somewhere around that time, he began live streaming his show on the Internet, three times per week. Eventually Sam transitioned his show to a YouTube channel under name “Sam The Cooking Guy” and the channel become instant success amassing thousand of subscribers and million of views. Currently his channel has 1.020.000 subscribers.

Sam is married with Kelly Zien and they have three kids. Family has two dogs.

Sam authored and published three cookbooks:

  • Just a Bunch of Recipes (2008)
  • Awesome Recipes and Kitchen Shortcuts (2010)
  • Just Grill This! (2011)
